When the Moon is hit by enormous electrical waves emanating from an unidentified planet, Commander Koenig, Maya and Carter take an Eagle to the planet in an attempt to persuade its people to stop the bombardment. The discover that the planet is surrounded by a ring of moons; they land on one and encounter strange, spherical machines who inform them that their humanoid Masters are not yet in existence. Intrigued, Koenig and the others then travel to the planet surface and meet more spheres who explain that their masters have a unique life-cycle - after they grow old they enter a chrysalis stage and are reborn; however, during this phase they are helpless and must be protected by a computer defence system. It is this computer that now perceives Alpha as a threat, and but the only remaining master, known as the Guardian, is unable to countermand its instructions as he has just entered his chrysalis stage. Alpha is doomed unless Commander Koenig can convince two newly-reborn female masters, known only as ‘A’ and ‘B’, that the Moon is no longer a threat - but will they decide in time…?
