A mysterious blue energy beam strikes Moonbase engineer Ted Clifford, transforming his brain into a computer relay station, and enabling an alien probe to envelop the Moon inside a huge ring of energy. After Clifford's mind burns out from the strain, Doctor Russell is caught in a ball of orange light and she becomes the new relay for the probe. Attempting to free Helena from the probe's influence, Commander Koenig and Carter board the alien craft, only to discover that the device has been pre-programmed by the ancient inhabitants of the dead world Triton, and its mission is to destroy the threat posed by the entire human race…
