The Bank of England enlists Adam’s aid to verify the identity of someone claiming to be the Grand Duchess Vorokhov; she wishes to withdraw her fortune of £150 million, and Adam knew the real Grand Duchess in 1901. At first Adam refuses, until he sees a photograph of her wearing a unique brooch once given to Louise that year. He sets off for her estate in Surrey known as Mede Hall House; however, when Georgina checks the address she discovers that a delivery man was recently driven mad there, by something terrifying that he saw in the basement. Meanwhile, Adam’s investigations have lead to him being reunited with a familiar face - and an old enemy…
