Adam is contacted by Hinchcombe of Scotland Yard, who is concerned with recent events: several newsreaders have been knocked out and temporarily replaced by doubles who then warn the viewers of the end of the world, and equipment from a broadcasting van has also been stolen. Meanwhile, Georgina attends a doomsday sermon from Doctor Mort, who prophesises the end of the world in a week's time. She then finds copies of a newspaper headlined with 'Russia delivers ultimatum' which are dated for the day Mort predicted. After air raid sirens sound and London is evacuated, Adam discovers that the prediction of the attack is a ruse to clear the city so that a gang of thieves can then rob all the banks at their leisure…
