|'Build a Better Mousetrap'
by Brian Clemens
A motorcycle gang has permission to ride on an area of land, but the Peck sisters, two little old ladies that live in a nearby mill, are annoyed by the noise and decide to cast a spell on the bikers. The motorbikes inexplicably stall, along with every other mechanical device within two miles.
The townsfolk blame the nuclear test facility situated in the area, but when Steed and Mrs. Gale investigate, they find that the station's own clocks are stopping, and that cars in perfect working order have also ceased to function. Mrs. Gale joins the motorcycle gang to see if they can provide a clue, but it isn’t long before the two old ladies are suspected of possessing an advanced electronic device, and some rather unsavoury crooks have their eyes on it....
