Steed is assigned to courier the plans for a new type of propellant, but the inventor, Neville, falls into a trance and then disappears. Steed searches for the plans in the scientist's library, and finds books that suggest that Neville was heavily into the occult, and was seemingly under a spell. When Neville then reappears, dead, a malevolent man named Markel arrives, under the pretence of looking for research notes, but who is in fact searching for the same plans as Steed. After Steed discovers that Markel contracted a black magic coven to put a spell on Neville, he and Mrs. Gale come into in conflict with both Markel and Cosmo, the money-grabbing warlock of the coven…
