Holy Chronometers! Temple Fugate, a.k.a. the Clock King, uses a clock fitted with a hidden television camera and a canister of knock-out gas to rob the Harry Hummert Jewelry Shop, relieving its wealthy patrons of their valuables. Batman and Robin arrive too late, but learn that the booby-trapped timepiece was bought from the Parkhurst Gallery; the Dynamic Duo race to the gallery, where they discover that the clock was put up for sale by a Mr. Kronos -an obvious non de plume of Fugate’s. While the two crime fighters visit one of Fugate's former molls, Thelma Thymepiece, who is now working at Dunbar's Drive-in, the Master of Time Crime disguises himself as pop art expert Progress Pigment as part of his plan to steal a rare time-related painting from the Parkhurst Gallery; as a local television news crew covers the painting’s unveiling in a live report, Fugate, as Pigment, unveils his own sculpture, ‘Time Out Of Joint’ - a bizarre collection of clockwork parts that emits strange noises. Undercover of this cacophony, a saw attached to the back of the sculpture cuts through the wall into a storage room filled with valuable paintings, and when the work of art then gives of a sound so high-pitched that it renders everyone unconscious, the Clock King and his earmuff wearing Second Hands steal the valuable timepiece. Hearing of the crime in progress, Batman and Robin hastily finish their Batburgers and race to the gallery, but the Clock King fires giant springs out of his ‘Time Out Of Joint’, catching the Caped Crusader and his clever chum in their coils…
