Holy Loch, Scotland: Tremayne assigns Richard and Sharron as escorts to President Drobnic and his wife, who are currently visiting England. But when the two dignitaries attend an inspection of the submarine H.M.S. Weatherby, a bomb planted aboard the craft explodes, killing the captain, severely injuring Drobnic, and sending the submarine plummeting to the sea bed. A rescue is mounted, but as the air runs out, Sharron must operate to save the president’s life - and then a second assassination attempt is made…
