'Blob' by Daniel Postgate

Tiny puts on a magic show for Small, pulling Froglets out of the Top Hat. The Froglets show Tiny how to make other things appear, and produce a friendly purple blob from the hat. Tiny shows off her new friend to her family, then plays with it in the caves and even has a sleepover. When Small feels left out and a bit jealous, the blob splits in two so he and Tiny can have a blob each; Tiny and Small go to bed happy… But later that night the two blobs sneak out and multiply again, and again, and again; soon there are dozens of mischievous blobs everywhere, causing utter chaos…
