'The Curious Tunnel' by Dave Ingham

Major is busy oiling the hinges on the Clanger’s bedroom hatches. When he runs out of oil he sends Tiny and Small to collect more Moonflower oil from Mother’s garden; but on the way the two Clangers get distracted by a funny noise coming from a side tunnel and decide to investigate. Inside Tiny and Small find a small air vent, which snatches away anything they put near it - including bits of blue string soup! Wondering where his children have gotten to, Major Clanger finds them playing with the air vent; he joins in, feeding even more items into the hole. The three Clangers are unaware that the air vent leads up to the surface, where an unhappy Granny is sitting, covered in blue string soup!
