Clangers

Small Clanger is digging away at a sort of quarry. He uncovers something that reflects, He clears a piece of mirror surface inside the gravel and sees his face in it. He grubs it out. It is a piece of mirror-like material. It is to a Clanger about the size of a good wardrobe mirror. Small Clanger takes it outside and shows it to Tiny Clanger. She looks into it and admires herself but Small Clanger pushes her away because it is his mirror and only meant to reflect him. He sets it up and fetches building blocks to make himself a fenced enclosure and a throne. Small Clanger sits on his throne admiring himself in the mirror. Tiny Clanger makes herself a copper crown. She wants to see herself in a mirror. She shows the crown to Small Clanger who tries it on and decides to keep it. Small Clanger lolls on his throne admiring himself in the mirror. Mother Clanger calls them in for soup. They all go in except Small. He has no audience and is feeling hungry. He decides to go in. He leaves the crown on the throne and goes. A froglet hops past him and goes into the place. Small Clanger goes back to shoo it out. By the time Small Clanger goes in to soup there is none left and nobody seems very interested. He takes a mug and goes to the soup-well. The soup-dragon is not there but the Baby Dragon tells him she is outside. Small Clanger runs out and sees the soup-dragon sitting on the throne wearing his crown and looking in his mirror. He turns her out. He asks her for some soup but she turns up her nose and walks away. Small Clanger sits on his throne. He is hungry. Soon the soup-dragon comes back with a mug of soup. She offers to trade it with him for a look in his mirror. Small Clanger lifts the mirror and turns it round so the dragon can see herself in it but as soon as she puts the mug of soup down on the wall he turns it back again, whereupon she grabs the mug of soup and insists that he turns the mirror round. They have a row which ends with the soup-dragon pouring the mug of sticky soup over the mirror and stalking away. Small Clanger's reflection is obliterated and he is enraged. The soup-dragon goes down a hole. Small Clanger picks up the mirror and runs after her demanding that she shall clean the mirror. He stands over the hole shouting. The soup-dragon climbs out of another hole with a mug of soup. She comes over and stands by Small Clanger as he shouts down the hole. Small Clanger does a double-take and drops the mirror which breaks in pieces in the hole. The dragon and Small Clanger look down sadly. The dragon gives him the jug of soup which he drinks and then they begin to laugh. He puts the crown on Tiny Clanger's head and dances away waving his mug of soup and kicks the throne and wall to pieces. The others join him in this good work and they go below
