'Space Tangle' by Miles McLeod

When the Iron Chicken doesn’t turn up for their picnic, Small uses his telescope and learns that lots of old worn out metal is blocking the sky around his friend’s nest. Flying off in the Music Boat, Small and Tiny use fishing nets to catch some of the space junk, but it isn’t long before the nets get broken. The two Clangers ask Major Clanger for help; he has an idea to use a fishing rod and a magnet to collect all the stray metal into one big ball – but ends up collecting the Iron Chicken as well…
