The Goodies

Late one night, Bill watches in amazement as two trombonists from the Salvation Army and a Jazz group - as well as a man busy in an outhouse - are abducted by aliens. With more reports of vanishing trombonists being reported Bill rushes back to Tim and Graeme, who are busy setting up a new café atop Knutters Knoll. Determined to solve the mystery, Bill takes up the trombone and sets out the following night to play his instrument on the nearby moors; while avoiding the druids and flashers, Bill sees what he thinks is an alien, but when he runs back to the ‘Knutters Knoll Knitespot’ in terror he learns that the object of his encounter was only Graeme, busy trying out his latest U.F.O.-spotting equipment. After Bill eventually does get abducted by the real aliens, who promptly throw him back for being a reject, Graeme sets up a huge monitoring system and manages to make contact with them; unfortunately the peaceful extraterrestrials overhear Graeme’s new robot, EBGB, threatening to destroy them, and they prepare to invade Earth instead. In a show of force, the Goodies don ‘Superman’ costumes and parade their prowess – and when that fails dismally, they dress Tim as ‘Supernun’ and send him into space as an ambassador of peace. But then Bill discovers that Graeme has gone a bit loony – and that he has strapped a nuclear warhead to Tim’s head…
