Helen, Terry and Phil arrive once again in the mystical Far East, where they meet a holy man named Kadru. The man quickly reveals his true colours as a servant of Belor, and tries to steal the fragment of Nidas from Helen’s necklace; however, he is stopped by the arrival of Prince Sagara – Rothgo in disguise – who transforms the evil holy man into a monkey. The Prince tells the children that he actually appears before them in his astral body; his physical form is deep in mediation elsewhere, attempting to discover a way to release a second fragment of Nidas from the Great Mandala. Furthermore, the Prince is soon to be married to the Princess Angora, a union of convenience that enabled Rothgo to obtain from her a magic talisman that controls the Naga, the giant, three-headed guardian of the Cave of Diamonds, where a third segment of the Nidas is secreted. After giving the talisman to the children, the Prince returns to his body. He is unaware that Belor is watching him; the witch wants the power of the Great Mandala for herself, and so she transforms herself into a huge, terrible demon and then engages the Prince in combat. Meanwhile Helen, Terry and Phil set off to the Cave of Diamonds, to confront the terrible Naga and retrieve the Nidas. The Prince defeats the demon by shrinking it down to size, but before he can take the Nidas from the Mandala, a sorcerer appears and captures him in a Noose of Power; as the magical bonds tighten, the Prince begins to be throttled to death…
