After Connor shows Abby his latest creation, an anomaly dating calculator, Philip warns him to keep his research for ‘Prospero’ a secret. When the A.D. detects a new anomaly in a disused prison, Connor, Abby and Captain Becker race off to investigate; Connor immediately locks down the portal, but it reopens again and again, allowing a Terror Bird to burst through into the present. Then a second Portal appears, bringing another Terror Bird and also an old friend: Danny Quinn! After a happy reunion with Abby, Connor and Becker, and having met his replacement, Matt, Danny introduces them all to his trusty stick, Molly, and then helps them deal with the Terror Bird incursion. Learning that Ethan has used his own anomaly detector to identify the portal at the prison, Connor uses feedback to track the renegade’s device; but when Danny corners Ethan he is shocked to discover that his captive is in fact his own brother, Patrick, who went missing through an anomaly years earlier. After escorting Patrick to a containment cell in the A.R.C., Danny is given a full debriefing by Lester. Meanwhile, back at the prison, Connor discovers that more anomalies are opening throughout the building; he quickly realises that they are all the same portal, which is projecting weaker versions of itself – has Ethan interfered with it somehow? Matt confides to Emily that he is from the future, on a mission to discover why the anomalies will render the Earth a wasteland. Danny meets Philip – a man whose name was all over Helen Cutter’s research documents – and then interrogates Patrick; his brother resents him for abandoning him in the past, and has now taken to murder as part of his own secret agenda. Overpowering Danny and his guards, Patrick takes Emily hostage and makes his escape; returning to the prison, he steps through the portal – leaving Emily chained up and at the mercy of a vicious Terror Bird. Back at the A.R.C., Connor makes a shocking discovery: it is Philip’s anomaly research that will lead to the planet’s destruction…
