A new Committee is set up in the Village, whose aim is to promote a drive to raise social consciousness. Number 6’s unsocial behaviour results his being declared ‘un-mutual’, and he is treated as a pariah and ignored by the villagers. However, after the villagers suddenly turn on him and attack, Number 2 suggests that he be subjected to a process called ‘Instant Social Conversion - otherwise known as a lobotomy…
