Number 6

A top secret agent inexplicably resigns from his job and then leaves for a holiday, only to be followed by two mysterious undertakers, who gas him into unconsciousness. The agent awakes in an exact replica of his London room, but when he looks out of the window, he finds that he has been transported to a picturesque community filled with strange and bizarre architecture, which is known as the Village. Investigating his surroundings, he meets the peculiarly dressed villagers, who wear penny-farthing badges identifying them as numbers; the taxis and telephones are only local, and no one will tell him where he is. The agent is then summoned to see the village leader, Number 2, who works for an unseen superior called Number 1. Number 2 tells the agent that he is Number 6, and that he will remain in the Village until he reveals why he resigned. Number 6 refuses and attempts to escape, but the Village sentry, a large balloon-like sentinel called Rover, attacks him. Number 6 decides to begin a war of nerves against those in charge, and plans another escape attempt…
