Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) Cast

While having a quiet evening at home, Jean’s peace is suddenly shattered when objects start flying around her flat. Frantic, she phones Jeff for help, and he arrives just as a black Rolls Royce leaves. Jean tells Jeff that she thinks Marty is attempting to contact her, but Marty assures Jeff that she is wrong. Convinced of Marty's presence, Jean contacts the Foster brothers, two spiritualists who claim to be able to help her contact Marty. Unknown to Jeff and Jean, this is all a plot devised by the brothers to drum up business: in return for their services, they want Jean to refer all her business clients to them. Jean accepts, as the detective agency is in financial difficulty. In a desperate attempt to persuade Jean that, with the commission she will get for introducing a new client she can still make money working for him, Jeff hires an alcoholic actress called Laura to approach the Fosters posing as a wealthy widow trying to trace her long-lost son. After Laura only gives Jean £25 out of the £200 Jeff gave her, she arrives at the Fosters' mansion, where she discovers the true nature of their ‘scientific approach’ to contacting the dead: they tell Laura to send dead people to them - but only after they have killed her and sent her to the ‘other side’! Jeff tracks Laura to the Fosters' home, but while he discusses things with Henry, Marty sees George burning Laura’s clothes in the furnace and then hiding her car. He tells Jeff, but the detective is captured by the brothers, who decide to kill him and Jean by attacking them with a frenzied barrage of electronically-propelled objects. Marty goes to a nearby power station and uses his vibrations to blow the power supply to the house - along with the rest of southern England. The two brothers are overpowered, and as Jeff and Jean leave the mansion they discover Laura sleeping in the back of Jeff's car with a newspaper wrapped around her; she ditched her clothes and swam across a lake to escape, and now promises to repay Jeff’s money. Marty quips that one cannot believe everything they see in a newspaper…
