'The Seeds of Death' (6 Parts) Story Code 'XX' by Brian Hayles

The TARDIS lands on Earth in the 21st Century, where the Doctor and his companions find that the human race is now reliant on T-Mat, a matter transmitting system that teleports people from one destination to another across the globe in seconds. They meet Commander Radnor, and his assistant Gia Kelly, who oversee the T-Mat system, which is currently malfunctioning. The Doctor and his friends agree to pilot an old space rocket, designed by Professor Eldred, to the relay station on the surface of the moon in order to investigate the problem. Here, they find the base overrun by Martian Ice Warriors, who are planning an invasion attempt on the Earth. In order to weaken any resistance, the Ice Warriors are using the T-Mat to send Martian seed pods to various points on the planet's surface, where they burst open, emitting a foam-like fungus which draws oxygen from the atmosphere, making it uninhabitable to humans, but perfect conditions for the Martians. The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe use the T-Mat to return to Earth, where the Doctor discovers that water is able to destroy the pods. Arriving at the local weather control bureau, he disposes of the Ice Warrior on guard using a sonic weapon, and then adjusts the instruments to cause a downpour across the globe, destroying the pods. He returns to the moon, and misdirects the Martian invasion fleet into an orbit around the sun, where it will be destroyed.
