The Doctor

The Doctor and Peri arrive on the planet Karfel, a world that the Doctor once visited whilst in his Third incarnation. But the once-pleasant world is now ruled by the Borad, an aged tyrant who banishes rebels by casting them into a time corridor known as the Timelash. When a young girl, Vena, inadvertently falls into the Timelash with a precious amulet, the ruthless Maylin Tekker threatens Peri's life to force the Doctor to follow her to retrieve it. Travelling to nineteenth century Scotland, the Doctor finds Vena, who has been given shelter by a young man known as Herbert. He takes them back to Karfel, where he discovers that the face of the Broad that appears to the public is nothing but a façade. The Borad is really a scientist known as Megelen, who while experimenting on a Morlox, a savage reptilian creature that lives in the catacombs of the planet, accidentally sprayed himself with an unstable element called M80; the gas caused his flesh to merge with that of the creature, leaving him a hideous mutant - half man and half Morlox. The Borad plans to annihilate the population of Karfel by inciting a war with the neighbouring planet of Bandril, who will destroy the planet surface with their weapons. The Borad will then repopulate his world with creatures like himself, starting with Peri, who he chains to a cave wall in front of a Morlox and a canister of M80. The Doctor rescues Peri, and, together with Herbert, enters the Timelash, scaling the corridor's walls so that he can retrieve one of the Kontron crystals that grow within it. He uses the crystal to make a device that projects him a few seconds into the future, and then faces the Borad, who has just murdered Tekker. The hideous scientist fires his energy weapon at the Time Lord, but the crystal channels it back, killing him. But the celebrations are short lived, when the real Borad appears, revealing that it was merely a clone that was destroyed by the Doctor. The Doctor manages to banish the Borad through the Timelash, where the creature lives the rest of his days as the Loch Ness Monster. After he Doctor and Peri discover that he is HG Wells, they take Herbert home.
